The makeup brand is honoring the late fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez who created some of the industry’s most iconic images. Lopez passed away back in 1987 but his legacy is more than enduring, with the artist having created distinctive illustrations for brands like Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent and Versace as well as publishing giants Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Interview and The New York Times. MAC managed to convince 1980s supermodels Marisa Berenson, Jerry Hall, and Pat Cleveland to also get involved, shooting the glamorous girls, who were all regularly painted by Lopez, as a trio. “Our collection with Antonio Lopez is symbolic of a time when indulgence was at its peak there was a magic to his world and a time in history that hasn’t been recaptured.
I think people are lusting after that glamour, which is difficult to come by today,” said James Gager, senior vice president and group creative director for MAC.
