Smpte Slave Driver Setup For Mac

Smpte Slave Driver Setup For Mac 9,1/10 169 reviews

Hi Live users, I have a question for you. I use Live with a multitrack tape deck. I always record my stuff into Live with live chasing timecode so that I can put any cool new audio created in Live back onto tape later for mixdown with other tracks. My problem is this. If I record into live synced to timecode how do I line up my tracks to the tempo grid without losing my sync.

Slave

It would be nice if I could just grab Bar 1 on Live in the arrangement window and move it to the right position on my audio. Once again if I move my audio It will no longer sync to my tracks on tape. Please help!!! I have plenty of experience using MIDI beat clock and MIDI Time Code to sync Live with various devices Then you can maybe answer a related question (while were waiting for Sammy to post his hardware spec's): I was recording while syncing Live by midi clock to a device sending also tempo changes. Live followed all tempo changes perfectly while recording but when I played back the recording in Live it seems as the tempo changes never got recorded, only the audio. Is this correct or did I miss out on any settings needed?

Greetings from Sweden Per Boysen. Guys, a big hand for mbazzy! Within five minutes I got an answer to this problem I have been struggling with for days. Not fun with such a bug, but when you know about it you can at least stop troubleshooting and save up some valuable time.

Last year I did that type of recording in Logic (audio with tempo changes) on a PC system but with the latest Logic on Mac it doesn't work at all - and my PC mobo is broke so I can't use that machine. Logic 6.3.3 simply crashes when getting tempo change midi clock info, both in recording and playback mode - a documented bug.

It seems I will have no way to record what I have planned so I will change the planning and make a different kind of music for this certain cd project. 'software rules'. Greetings from Sweden Per Boysen. Vercengetorex, This is Sammy, sorry for the delay in my reply.

I use a MOTU midi fastlane USB for Miditimecode sync. I actually am not using analog tape, I'm using DA-88s, but analog should work to.

I run my tapes as the master and SMPTE out of them to an old ProTools SMPTE slave driver. The Slave Driver acts as a SMPTE to MIDI timecode converter.

You dont even need ProTools running. Actually it can be a stand alone converter. It works great for me. I recorded some Hammond Organ at my clients house with a submix of his songs on my laptop. Using Live I put the Hammond Tracks back on to tape. Sure beats trying to move a huge Hammond organ. I have had no problems with sync, but in order to have fun with Live on the song I had to move the tracks out of sync and onto the live beat grid.

I'm not sure how to reliably resync that stuff with the origional SMPTE. Also if there are any Live designers out there. Why does the MIDI time code offset not save with your project. I happened to write the offsets down for my songs, but if I hadn't I would be screwed because all projects open with the last offset that you used. Seems like a good improovement would be to have offsets save with each project. Keep Playing. In sync if possible, Sammy.

Sammy, thanks for the heads up on your setup. I will simply have to experiment with my 828's capabilities regarding analog SMPTE.I just hope it converts Linear Time Code to MIDI Time Code internally. As for the timing offsets, I am in absolute agreement.

That should be saved on a per-song basis, not as a Live preference. As for Per and Bazzy I too have run headlong in this limitation, however was easily able to solve it using Digital Performer as Lives master (only in recent instances of the occurance, with the release of DP 4.11 w/ Rewire.) It is an unfortunate want of a feature for Live, but the software is still rapidly growing. Well, off to finish wiring the home studio recently relocated to beautiful central California!
