Hoping to capitalize on the growing number of homes, offices and classrooms equipped with AirPort-compatible wireless networking technology, Hewlett-Packard Company today unveiled the WP100. It's a wireless print server that enables Mac-compatible network-capable HP inkjet printers (including the Deskjet 900 and 895C models) to communicate with AirPort-enabled systems. The WP-100 supports IEEE 802.11b, the same wireless standard used by Apple in its AirPort cards and base stations. AirPort is available as an option throughout the Mac product line, from the iBook to iMac, the PowerBook G4 to the Power Mac G4.
HP marketing manager Karl Schwenkmeyer says it's all about HP's attempts to improve productivity and efficiency. 'As one of the first to market with an IEEE 802.11b-compliant print server, HP is giving customers the ability to choose wireless options that best serve their needs,' said Schwenkmeyer. The WP100 will be available through HP's own, and select Apple dealers for US$299. HP says to look for more information about the WP-100 from its Web site soon.
